Diets Don't Work

Have you gone on one diet and another just to find yourself back in the same place, or worse? Depressing, isn’t it? I know – I’ve been there, done that, tried them all.

The diet industry isn’t interested in you achieving your goals, quite the reverse – when you fail, you become a recurring client which boosts their revenue. The food industry is even worse; they know how to make food that is simply irresistible, the more you eat the bigger their profit margins. It’s business after all.

I urge my clients to assess their needs based on their own individual circumstances and goals, not based on the latest fad or diet.

Calorie Restriction

Calorie restriction or as I like to say, ‘depravation,’ is doomed to fail. If you take something away, you eventually want it more. The ‘eat less, move more’ paradigm, although it has merit, simply isn’t getting through.

Though this method may help you to shed weight fast, it won’t help you to achieve long-lasting results or teach you to learn about your body and what it needs.

Weight Loss Is A Lie

It’s not weight we want to lose… If you amputated a leg, you would lose around 15kg. You can also lose muscle mass through restrictive and unhealthy eating patterns, or yo-yo dieting, but this isn’t the weight loss goal you want to achieve.

We want to help you transform your body, get into the size of clothes we used to fit in, feel well and happy in our own skin, be proud of ourselves with positive self-esteem. The number on the scale is simply that, a number. Don’t let it control your life.

One day, just before I turned 44, I walked up a short flight of stairs at work. I was so out of breath I had to sit down. I was a carer for two children, one with special needs, and an elderly parent. I was juggling being a wife and mum, a daughter and running a business but I seemed to be performing none of these roles particularly well. I had completely lost myself.
I was sick, tired and had terrible, constant back pain. David came to me through a Facebook recommendation. I couldn’t find the words to ask for what I needed so I just texted him “Please help”.

I have been to gyms and had generic programs printed out for me in the past. I’ve attended classes and even had a personal trainer for a short while. None of these seemed to “stick”. From the first day I knew things with David were going to be different. He introduced me to a whole new way of life through small, incremental and achievable stages. He showed me compassion, kindness and understanding. And when I couldn’t believe in myself, he believed in me.

I saw results within a few months. I was leaner, stronger and the backpain disappeared. I was sleeping better, full of energy and felt excited about every day. I had sworn I didn’t care about the aesthetics, but as my body and mind became stronger I started to enjoy the way I looked and the way clothes fitted on me. I was comfortable in my body and grateful for what it could do for me, every day. Self-love was a new concept but I was finally experiencing it.

Five years later and approaching 50 I am stronger, fitter and more flexible than I have ever been. I am a better mother, a more engaged partner and my caring duties no longer take such a heavy toll because I am better equipped to deal with the physical and emotional demands. I have found balance and happiness in my life. I have also developed the confidence to reduce my stress at work and become more productive. After five years I still look forward to every single training session and discovering new things about myself.
